The curriculum at Bankside College will provide education and training that equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours necessary to progress into adult life.
Through holistic education, with specialist therapeutic support and in a modern college environment, learners improve their independence, confidence and where appropriate employability skills to live meaningful lives.
Through a personalised curriculum, learners choose a pathway of study that leads to a positive destination. Depending on the learner, this may include supported and independent living, supported and voluntary work, and paid employment. The curriculum also offers learners the opportunity to improve their application of mathematics, English and digital literacy.
With a focus on the Preparation for Life Agenda, learners develop essential life skills and their knowledge of the world and the communities they live in. Learners will be able to transfer the skills they learn and practice at the college to their home and in the workplace environment. Throughout the curriculum and enrichment programmes, learners also focus on their health and wellbeing, learning how to cope in various situations and lead a healthy lifestyle. This includes access to services such as doctors, health and social care professionals and community organisations.
All learners have individual learning plans which map out their profiles of need, as well as their long-term goals. Also, the majority of our learners have Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs), which contain outcomes that they will work towards in an educational and social context. The curriculum at Bankside College is designed to challenge, be age-appropriate and focus on learners achieving their outcomes through various pathways, educational, social, and enrichment activities.
